A solicitor from Wake Smith & Tofields is helping one Burnley man, exposed to an asbestos 'snowstorm' at multiple Burnley sites, to fulfil his final wish and provide for his family.
John Bracken, 58, was exposed to asbestos in the 1960s when working for a well known Lancashire construction company called Mullen and Durkin. He has now developed a form of terminal cancer called mesothelioma, caused by exposure to asbestos, and is desperately seeking to find out more information on the firm in order to claim compensation to fund vital medical care and provide for his wife and family.
Wake Smith & Tofields said: "Mullen and Durkin dissolved in 1994 but before that worked on a number of buildings, many public, in Lancashire. John Bracken worked at a number of schools and council properties across Burnley and was exposed to asbestos on repeated occasions. Understandably, John now needs to seek compensation for himself and his family. We desperately need people to get in touch if they can provide any information on Mullen and Durkin.
"There may be other people who have been exposed to asbestos so the sooner we can raise awareness of the potential danger the better. Anyone who is concerned should contact their local GP immediately and speak to the Industrial Diseases department at Wake Smith & Tofields for information."
John Bracken started work at Mullen and Durkin, in Trafalgar Street, Burnley in 1962 where he estimates that about 400 people were working at the time. His work involved tearing out old boilers and pipe work at a wide range of properties in Burnley including Burnley Football Ground, the Clayton Civic Centre and Library.
He was diagnosed with mesothelioma in July 2008 but started feeling the early symptoms in March 2006, getting occasional pains in his chest and becoming breathless quickly.
John commented: "I have a large family who have all rallied around to support me and my wife. But I know that my condition is going to deteriorate and I will need specialist care. I want to make sure that my wife is comfortable and finding the insurance company who act on behalf of Mullen and Durkin - or any information on the firm's owners - will help this claim to progress.
Anyone with information on Mullen and Durkin or concerns about exposure to asbestos should contact a member of the work related illness team at Wake Smith on 0114 266 6660 or email [email protected]
