The recent BBC series 'You Can't Take It With You', has prompted the nation to think carefully about Wills and estates, after revealing that 70% of the population have not yet made a Will.
Nobody ever wants to think about their own death, but the recent TV series has highlighted the reasons why it is so important. Throughout the series, presenter Sir Gerry Robinson tackled the thorny issues of providing for children from a previous marriage, making charitable gifts and making gifts to disabled beneficiaries.
The series unearthed family fueds and addressed unpalatable questions. After watching the programme it is easy to see why people would rather not think about their Will and might explain why 70% of the population have not made one yet.
But one thing was clear, everyone should carefully think about what they would like to happen to their estate when they die and highlighted the need to obtain good professional advice.
