Sheffield law firm Wake Smith is celebrating 25 years of hosting its city-based business lunch club. The company, which hosts a broad events programme every year, started the triannual initiative back in 1990 as a way of allowing business leaders and decision makers the chance to meet over a bite to eat in less formal surroundings than other networking events.
It has been hosted at various venues across the city including Baldwins Omega, Las Iguanas and Piccolinos but every Christmas returns to Sheffield City Hall for its annual festive gathering which this year attracted a record 200 guests for some sumptuous, sit down festive fayre.
John Baddeley, director at Wake Smith, which recently announced a January 2016 move to new city centre offices, said: "We're close to the 10,000 mark in total meals served and eaten over the years to the South Yorkshire business community. "It's always been an important part of our events programme attracting a wide range of clients both existing and potential including banks, accountants and business leaders. I'm not sure when we started it, that we expected it would last 25 years though. We still invite a large number of guests every year and the attendance shows no signs of waning. "It's grown now to become one of the most popular events in the business social calendar in the city. I think people appreciate the service we provide and the oppportunity it gives them to eat great food in quality surroundings with a good group of people."
