Tom Weightman
Commercial Property Solicitor
Lives: Crookes, Sheffield
Education: For school I went to Brigg Preparatory School and then Queen Elizabeth’s High School in Gainsborough. After that it was University of Sheffield for my Law degree and finally Sheffield Law School for the LPC.
Work History: In my second year at university I won a raffle at the law fair for some work experience at Wake Smith. I have trained and stayed at the firm ever since. Less jammy routes into law are also available.
What was your first job? I was a potato-picker on a farm in Glentworth.
What did you think you would be when you grew up? A lawyer and part-time England football manager. Technically I’m halfway to realising my goal.
Where is the best place to go for office gossip? The water-cooler.
What is the best thing about your job? Completing a deal for a good client.
What is the worst thing about your job? Transactions being delayed.
What and where is your favourite restaurant? Caffe Piazza in Sheffield city centre does the best pepperoni pizza and tomato garlic bread around. The Rajput in Crookes does a great Chicken Tikka Bhuna though.
What book are you reading? ‘A History of Ancient Rome’ by Mary Beard. It does what it says on the tin.
If you were stranded on a desert island, which two luxury items would you take? That day’s newspaper and some white chocolate Toblerone. As survival plans go it is very reliant on being rescued after about half an hour.
If a film was being made of your life, who would you want to play you and why? Daniel Craig would be cool but Radcliffe is more realistic.
Who would you least like to be stuck in a lift with? Piers Morgan, Joey Barton, Sharon Osborne, Donald Trump, Mark Wright and all of the Kardashians. I am angry just at the thought of it.
Which 3 celebrities would you invite to your perfect dinner party (alive or dead)? Sir Bobby Robson, J K Rowling and Cicero. I think they would get on well because they all have an interesting story to tell and great at what they do.
What do you enjoy in your spare time? I play hockey for Sheffield University Bankers Hockey Club at the weekend and enjoy watching and playing sport in general. Otherwise I like nice pubs, bad music and good food.
Who is your hero and why? He’s not doing particularly well at the moment but I’ve always been a Jose Mourinho fan. To go from interpreter to one of the best managers in the world must mean you are a bit special and I like the way he deals with issues with a sort of romantic pragmatism. My Grandma is also a phenomenal woman.
