Staff at one of Sheffield's longest established law firms, Wake Smith Solicitors, will take to the city’s streets for the Sheffield 10k on 24 September in aid of animal welfare.
The team, comprising of Lorraine Slack, Kate Lax, Tom Weightman, Roberta Griffin-Pygott, Lauren Hance, Neil Salter, Jane Turner and Suzanne Porter are raising money for their chosen charity, Thornberry Animal Sanctuary.
The run follows last year's debut race which was attended by four of the company's commercial property team, but this year attracted double the number of candidates who are reaching for 500 pounds of sponsorship.
Kate Lax, a medical negligence solicitor said: “Thornberry Animal Sanctuary is our chosen charity this year and it is great that we have doubled our numbers of runners following last year's debut!
“We chose Thornberry Animal Sanctuary as it rescues abandoned, neglected and unwanted animals and gives them a second chance.”
The charity is based in North Anston in South Sheffield, and rescues hundreds of animals each year - including dogs, cats, rabbits, horses and other farm animals across South and West Yorkshire, North East Derbyshire, North Nottinghamshire and beyond.
Last year it re-homed 250 animals.
Kate added: “There is a bit of rivalry between us to see who makes the best time but we are all on-side to raise as much as we can.”
Thornberry Animal Sanctuary is dedicated to finding secure, loving homes for as many animals as possible and providing the best care to those which remain there. No unwanted cat, dog, rabbit or horse is ever turned away.
As an independent charity, it relies entirely on fundraising, donations from members of the public, legacies and businesses for its survival. Its vet bills alone reach up to £9,000 per month.
The Sheffield 10k route starts in Arundel Gate, taking runners along Charter Row and along Ecclesall Road, before skirting the edges of Endcliffe Park. It continues along Riverdale Road, along Endcliffe Vale Road, close to the Botanical Gardens, then travels down Brocco Bank and back to a city centre finish.
