Considering almost no-one had heard of the term before 2020, furlough is now a much used word.
The guidance from the Government on the furlough scheme, which supports individuals and businesses impacted by Coronavirus, has been updated numerous times.
The original furlough scheme has now been extended until the end of September 2021 while the Self-Employment Income Support Scheme enters its fourth stage.
Joan Pettingill, Director & Head of Employment Law & HR Services at Wake Smith Solicitors, looks at the details.
“The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme has been extended until the end of September 2021.
“The move means millions of workers will have 80 per cent of their wages paid for another six months, while more people, including many who are self-employed, will be eligible for support.
“Furlough will be extended until end Sept at 80 per cent of salary, up to £2,500 until scheme ends.
“Businesses will be asked to contribute 10 per cent of salary from July, rising to 20 per cent in August and September.
“The Self-Employment Income Support Scheme has also been extended. The fourth grant will cover February to April, worth 80 per cent of average trading profits up to £7,500. A fifth grant will be available from July.
“We await the further details following the budget.”
