Wake Smith has helped innovative London dessert bar Treats Club expand into its first permanent commercial premises.
Female-owned Treats Club was launched in 2018 by entrepreneur Lungile Mhlanga, who has taken the baking brand from the back of a Toyota Yaris on a journey to becoming London’s best known hot donut brand.
Now, after carving a reputation in the capital as having some of the best donuts, most innovative ice cream flavours and as being the premiere destination for gourmet marshmallow fluff, Lungile has secured rented premises on Hackney Road in Shoreditch.
Wake Smith advised on the lease for the premises for Lungile, who now has extensive experience at catering for indoor and outdoor events such as food markets, festivals, weddings, birthdays, corporate dos and for high profile names such as Calvin Klein, Samsung and Universal Music.
Laura Saul, Director in Wake Smith's commercial property team, advised on the lease. She said: “We were really pleased to provide the legal support on the lease requirements for Lungile. We enjoyed working closely with her in this exciting step for the business and look forward to watching it grow.”
The new base will become a desserts cafe and shop selling her delicious range of sweets, with seating for around 30 people and employ four staff, opening at the end of February after being fitted out.
Lungile, who has featured in Forbes 30 Under 30, Eater London and Mob Kitchen, said: “We're now incredibly proud to serve some of the best desserts in the city and we're on a journey to spread our donuts as far and wide as we can.
“This permanent base was driven by customer demand. They kept asking if we had a shop where they could buy our products from, rather than chasing around to markets and other events.
“I viewed this place and knew it was perfect.”
Lungile added: “A huge thank you to the amazing Laura Saul at Wake Smith Solicitors. She is the most professional, thorough solicitor you could hope to have. Make sure if you’re doing a commercial lease of any kind, you use her.”
